The legendary Carnegie Hall has been the venue for a number of monumental events in bossa nova history. Artists such as Joao Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz were able to propel the popularity of the music through their performances and subsequent live albums recorded at the hall.  The advocacy of music from every corner of the globe has been a defining characteristic of the locale and this is continued with “Voice of Latin America

Gilberto Gil performs at Carnegie Hall - Voices of Latin America

Fittingly, Brazilian music stalwart, Gilberto Gil, will serve as one of the representative figures for Brazilian music. He kicks of the series, with his “evening of forro. The event is to function as both an entertainment spectacle and educational showcase aiming to acquaint the audience with the music form while appealing to listeners already familiar with the style.

This is just one of a number of appearances and performances for Gil in recent times, with a performance at Schermerhorn Symphony Center scheduled for tomorrow.
