Today August 8th, marks the 70th birthday of bossa nova and MPB great, Caetano Veloso. Velosoo has had a remarkably active life in both the creative and political sphere. As a guitarist, composer and singer he has had a long career of sustained success which has seen him win 8 Latin Grammys and 2 Grammys; more than any other Brazilian musician to date. He is also regarded as one of the trailblazers for the Tropicalismo, movement of the mid 20th century.
Music aside, he was also a major political activist, whose controversial lyrics saw him exiled from the country. Along with other musicians from the Tropicalismo movement, he had a noticeable impact on the political environment of his country and is partly responsible for ending the dictatorship which once plagued Brazil.
All of this Culminates in him winning the Latin Grammy Personality of the Year for 2012.
