Claude Nobs died Thursday at the age of 76 following a skiing accident in Caux,Switzerland on the 24th of December. He had been in a coma ever since. Claude along with the then president of Atlantic Records Nesuhi Erteguen founded the Montreux Jazz Festival in the Swiss town in 1967. Since its inception the festival has been host to performances by the greatest of musicians.

The festival  proved important for the exposure of bossa nova with the likes of Tom Jobim, Jorge Ben Jor , Joao Gilberto, Elis Regina and Miles Davis performing at the festival over the years.
