Rio 2 will retain Bebel Gilberto and Sergio Mendes, among others

Rio 2 is the sequel to the animated musical –comedy that was released in 2011. The original film, directed by Carlos Saldanha, was based on his hometown of Rio. With this in mind, the inclusion of bossa nova on the soundtrack seemed a natural move.

Famed film composer and conductor John Powell was contracted to create the soundtrack for Rio. He incorporated establish names in bossa nova such as Sergio Mendes, Toquinho, Bebel Gilberto and Chico Buarque (who was actually born in Rio) on the soundtrack. It was a success with the soundtrack enjoying commercial success and spawning the song, “Real in Rio.” Written by Sergio Mendes, Carlinhos Brown and Siedah Garett the track was nominated for the Academy Award for the best Original Song.

Recently the cast for Rio 2 was announced and Bebel Gilberto retained her role as voice-actress for the character Eva “a keel billed Toucan.” Her responsibilities in Rio were not limited to voice acting as she also performed on the Original Soundtrack.

Sergio Mendes already confirmed that he would be contributing to the soundtrack for Rio 2 alongside John Powell and now it seems quite likely that Bebel Gilberto will also contribute to the soundtrack. Just yesterday Bebel Gilberto posted a picture on her Instagram hugging Carlos Saldanha with the captions “Recording Rio,” and has always been vocal about her delight in being a part of Rio as both a voice actress and as a musician.

Bebel Gilberto is not the only major recording artist on the cast with, Jamie Foxx and music producer also providing voice acting. Hollywood stars such as Anne Hathway, Tracy Morgan, Rodrigo Santoro and George Lopez also retaining their roles for the sequel.
